🎮

An icebreaker from their own answer

The welcome says "come say hi in #introductions, and tell everyone why they should play [their game]".

📊

Know why people join

"Why did you join" is a choice, so you can count it: friends, the topic, the events, the people.

🌟

Their first XP

Participation XP is on, so a new member's first reward also shows them the XP system. Once per member, so it can't be farmed.

Private or public, your call

By default only the mods see the answers, and the intro says so.

Worked example This template comes with a a server's welcome for new members example so you can see exactly how it plays. Edit the questions and content to make it your own.

Most new members join, skim the rules and go quiet. This template gives them four light questions and, at the end, a reason to post: a welcome that points them to your introductions channel with an icebreaker built from their own answer.

The four questions

  1. “What interested you in joining this server?” A choice: a friend invited me, the topic, the events, the people, or something else.
  2. “What’s something you hope to learn, experience, or get out of being here?”
  3. “What’s one thing that brings you energy and joy?”
  4. “What’s a game you recommend to everyone?”

The last answer comes back in the welcome message, so the newcomer arrives in #introductions with something to say instead of a blank “hi”.

What you learn from it

The first question is a choice rather than open text, so you can count why people join and see whether your invites, your topic or your events bring them in. The open answers are where newcomers tell you what they hope to find; Text Analysis summarizes them so you can read the pattern without reading every reply.

Variants

  • Public introductions: post each member’s answers in your welcome channel with New Response Notifications (Premium), and say so in the intro.
  • A role on completion: create a “Welcome aboard” achievement linked to a role that opens the rest of the server, and give it at the end.
  • Not a gaming server: swap the game question for one about your topic (a book, a tool, a track) and keep the icebreaker line.

FAQ

Common questions

Can everyone see the introductions?

By default no, only the mods. To post them publicly, turn on New Response Notifications (Premium) with your welcome channel as the Notification Channel: each completion posts the member's answers there. Then change the intro line to say so (for example "Your answers will be posted in #welcome so everyone can say hi"). Never post answers publicly without telling members first.

Can new members get a role or a badge?

Yes, after cloning: create a "Welcome aboard" achievement in your community (it can link a Discord role, such as one that opens the rest of the server) and give it on completion. Achievements don't copy with a clone, so this is set up in your own community.

Can it run automatically when someone joins?

Not from this template; posting or pinning it is the way today.

What if my server doesn't use XP?

Turn it off and change the welcome's button ("Collect your welcome XP") to something like "See you there!".
